My Experience in Milos, Greece
Last summer, I had the opportunity to visit the island of Milos, Greece, with my two best friends. To this day, Milos remains one of my favorite places I’ve ever been to, and my favorite Greek island. Milos is just a short 2-hour and 40-minute ferry ride from Piraeus port, located just outside of Athens.
Immediately after getting off the ferry, we walked to a car rental service that was very close by. The rental process was fairly easy and made our trip a lot easier, as there weren’t too many taxi services on the island. We then took the car to our Airbnb, which was conveniently located in a central part of the island, Tripiti, which made it very easy to go to and from outings. We essentially ended up going almost everywhere by foot; with the exception of Sarakiniko beach and the port for our boat tour.
During our trip, we made sure to visit Sarakiniko Beach, which is truly a unique and breathtaking destination. It is a beautiful beach with white rock formations that create an otherworldly lunar landscape. The contrast of the crystal-clear turquoise waters against the brilliant white rocks is a sight to behold, making it a must-see destination for anyone. Photos do not do it justice; Sarakiniko is exponentially more beautiful in person. It is a great spot for swimming, cliff jumping, sunbathing, and taking photos (film photos, in particular). We also had an amazing experience taking a boat tour, which allowed us to swim in areas only accessible by boat. The tour was about two hours long, and overall a very enjoyable experience.
The night-life in Milos was a bit tame, but definitely not to be overlooked. The best spots for nighlife in Milos are Tripit and Triovasalos. The bars/clubs in Milos have a very classic Greek island feel, just on a smaller scale; because there are significantly less tourists than the more popular islands like Santorini and Mykonos. I really liked this aspect of Milos, it made my trip a lot more authentic and I felt more connected to all of the Greek culture around me. I had a very memorable and well-rounded experience in Milos and I recommend it to anyone looking for their next vacation spot!
